Covestic employs BPM approach to help start-up service provider realize market success.
BUSINESS CHALLENGE
The start-up company was struggling to define its organizational structure, business processes,
roles and responsibilities, and application architecture to support their wireless broadband product
offering and business model. They wanted to define a process-centric approach to help them clearly
define roles and responsibilities within the organization, and prioritize business processes that
were critical to supporting their product launch.
The company also needed to define its business and operational support systems architecture,
including vendor selection for tools and services that would be necessary to support the launch
and ongoing operations. They decided that they needed to look at a complete business process
management (BPM) solution that would enable them to establish business and operational systems
to support customer care, finance, and marketing throughout a multi-market launch.
COVESTIC'S SOLUTION
Covestic was selected to lead the BPM project because of our deep experience and understanding
of the business process requirements that are unique to the service provider industry. The service
provider engaged Covestic to complete the entire modeling phase and to develop business and functional
requirements that would enable selection of the business and operations support systems (B/OSS) components,
including billing, customer relationship management, provisioning, and support tools.
Covestic initiated the project by defining the business processes for each of the functional areas of the
business (care, billing, finance, distribution, and marketing), and then assigning an owner to clearly define
roles and responsibilities within the client's organization. This led to the creation of an organizational
model that clearly defined roles for partners, suppliers, and departments.
Covestic decomposed all of the business processes into workflow models that included activities and
decisions performed by roles identified in the organizational model, and then associated each
activity with an application within the B/OSS architecture. Once the critical workflows had been
defined, Covestic was able to map the functionality of each application to the workflows, enabling
a functional coverage analysis to be performed during the system selection to ensure the billing and
CRM applications would support critical business processes.
As a startup organization, our client had a brilliant product idea and delivery technology, but needed
Covestic's assistance to move their product into an operational model. Through our complete understanding
of the client's business and proven BPM methodology, Covestic was able to help them define roles and
responsibilities, B/OSS architecture, and select the best-fit vendors to support their business model.
PROJECT RESULTS
In the end, Covestic employed a proven BPM approach to model the organizational and business
process approach for the client. We completed well over 200 business processes for care, finance,
billing, marketing, and distribution, then selected the appropriate B/OSS vendors to complete the
application architecture. By engaging Covestic, our client was able to bring their product to market
in an efficient and cost effective manner.
